What i learned being a T.A

In the beginning of the year honestly i figured this calss would be an easy way to get a an easy A. Two weeks in i realised that was a huge mistake. At first i coulod barely deal with the kids, they would disrespect, down talk or ignore me all together. Given the kind of person i am, holding off my first instinct to just smash them and take the suspension. Over time however i discovered that some of these kids aren't all that bad. Sure there are the Jacks and the Baller Gs who think they own the place but in their efforts to avoid sweating and exerciseing all theyre doing is crippling themselfs later in life. Fitness is important and as i learned in this class a friendly attitude and an understanding mind set really sets a powerful example for the children to follow. While I wont lie and i still havent learned all the kids names in both classes i havfe found a select few students in Pedersons and Neufelds that i can reallyt get along with and even trust them to be an extention of my duties without having to wonder whether they'll just run away when i turn my back. While i did jump into this class expecting something diffrent i did still enjoy the experience, whether or not ill take this course next yeart i still havent decided. Ill always love the fitness and i would love to learn how to express that feelings on everyone else, from where i came from in grade 8; exercise is the greatest things thats ever happened to me in my life which i wish everyone in the world understood.

  3. That is quite good Tristan. The TA skill requirements are definitely NOT easy, and they clearly not your perceived strengths either. I am happy you gave it a go though, as there have been a few moments where the look on your face was more learning than I could ever hope to have passed on to you. I think if you decide to, you could actually be a really great TA, because many of the kids would connect with your dislike of sports and your anti authority attitude. I wish you hadn't missed so many classes (as a TA that is even more harmful to your "success", and Pederson and I both think your default to personal fitness is only the first step in leading by example. You started a really valuable journey... I hope you keep going. Don't go back into the shell and "take care of Tristan"... risk asking others to share an experience and force yourself to see through their eyes. That will be far more valuable than any fact your ever memorize. Knowing you missed a bunch, and were struggling with the names and interactions with some of the students, do you still see yourself as an A student? Thinking about the specific skills we are after in this course?

  4. next year im going to no life school, i dont want to graduate but since i dont really have a choice i think its about time i kick into over drive with my education. its time i grow up in ways like you discussed and learn to respect those i need to. lifes not all easy fun and games and i need to understand that fully before i move into the real world. i think i will give TA another shot next year with more determination and higher attendance.
